At Packmoor Ormiston Academy, we believe that language, literacy and communication are the fundamentals to developing key skills in life. We aim to promote an ethos of love for reading, alongside teaching the skills and knowledge to enable pupils to communicate effectively, both in spoken and written form. We ensure the children develop and acquire a wide range of vocabulary alongside understanding the conventions of reading, writing and spoken language. All of these skills are essentials to participating fully as a member of society.
In English, we promote SMSC through a variety of channels: social development is through the key skill of speaking and communicating through a variety of means; moral development is supported through understanding the perspectives of others; cultural development is enhanced through the teaching of various multi-cultural texts and authors and spiritual development is taught through the exploration of language and understanding why and how something has been used.
